An Indoctrinated Society...

Most of us live in a society where we have been conditioned to automatically trust health care professionals, governmental advice and even our food producers. It's no surprise therefore that just as we have trusted our vets and pet food manufacturers for the supply of quality nutrition from the commercial pet food, we have unquestioningly accepted that vaccines are safe and effective to prevent infectious disease. Many people not only feel that keeping their pets up to date with shots is best for their pet, they also believe that to not vaccinate is irresponsible!

With the increased awareness of the negative effect of commercial foods on our dogs health, so too do we start to question other health practices such as pest control and of course disease and its prevention. For some the exploration of raw feeding has also led to other natural rearing practices, such as minimal/no vaccinations and a more holistic approach to caring for their dog.

We have all been indoctrinated into believing that “vaccines saved us” and that they “protect” us and our pets from disease, yet there are no studies, or proof to support this, only statistics to the contrary!  But don’t take our word for it, search for yourself...

Every day, animal health practitioners are seeing the opposite of vaccines preventing disease. Instead they are seeing more and more pets presenting with allergies, itchy skin, infected ears, yeast infections, eczema, atopy, arthritis, bone diseases, digestive problems, IBS, autoimmune diseases, organ failure, neurological and behavioural problems, cancer and death!

Why? If you were to look at the history and veterinary records for these dogs, you would find that the one thing they all have in common is that they have all been faithfully vaccinated and boostered!

An Overview to Vaccines...

The subject of vaccination is contentious. Vaccinations, whilst in some instances do afford protection against the disease being vaccinated against; they also considerably damage the immune and nervous system which leads to a weakening of the gene pool, and thus the overall health of a given population. They create far higher risks of cancer and chronic disease over the long term, especially when overused such as the modern veterinary protocol to repeat vaccinate annually or tri-annually.

Factors that affect this process in ALL instances is how strong the immune system is in the first place. Vaccine manufacturer datasheets say only 100% healthy dogs should be vaccinated, and there is a very good reason for this, because if the dog is under par from either poor diet, pregnancy, stress, drugs or currently fighting a disease or recovering from surgery, even spay/neuter surgery the immune system won't have the necessary resources with which to create antibodies. This happens a lot with dogs that are taken fresh off the streets and then vaccinated very few actually seroconvert the vaccine into immunity.

However, once antibodies are created (a Titer test 3 weeks after vaccination can confirm this), the antibody memory cells have been scientifically proven to last for 10 years. So, once immune, you can't become more immune and you can't boost” immunity.

Why then do manufacturers say boosters are required? Because they only run challenge tests for 1 year, or 3 years for some manufacturers, so this is the only period they are prepared to guarantee the vaccine for. For more information on that see here:

The biggest problem with vaccinations is the adjuvants and preservatives in the ingredients such as aluminium, thimerosal (mercury), formaldehyde to name just a few. These are in the vaccine because they are needed to irritate the immune system so that it goes to find the virus as the virus injection bypasses the normal mucous membrane channels that the body is designed to receive disease via and recognise.

So, the immune system has to be irritated by these toxic chemicals so that it knows it is under attack and goes find the threat and defend against it. This is great vis-a-vis creating the desired antibodies, yet this irritation comes at a price: auto immune disease and demyelination (erosion) of the nerve coverings (leading to hypersensitivity).

The toxic adjuvants and preservatives in vaccines are also being linked to other diseases, particularly cancer, although research is still limited.

Vaccines are now thought by leading vaccinologists, such as Dr W Jean Dodds and Dr Ron Schultz, to be the No.1 cause of auto-immune diseases, and this is gradually now being proved by many scientific studies.

So, these vaccines actually create a self-perpetuating downward spiral because they damage the very immune system they not only purport to help, yet need, to actually defend against disease anyway!

Out of the three groups, the Hypersensitives are at most risk of a visible adverse reaction to vaccines most commonly in the form of demyelination (erosion) of the nerve coverings which are already in a hypersensitive state, creating even greater hypersensitivity. With the street dogs in Bulgaria, we most commonly see this in puppies that have been taken from their mother or abandoned at a very early age, and then once vaccinated; the hypersensitivity manifests itself strongly as fears and social ineptitude. These types of dogs in particular, should never be repeat vaccinated.

Question: Do I have to vaccinate even once?

Not if you don’t want to.  Because as in point 1 above, it is very possible to create antibodies just by coming into contact with the disease provided you have a strong enough immune system.  So, focus on creating a very healthy body, concentrating on fresh, natural produce in the diet etc, (avoiding toxins whenever possible in the food and environment especially elective pesticides such as flea/tick spot-ons and chemical de-wormers), avoid/reduce packaged foods, artificial ingredients etc etc, and these are the tools the body needs to not only defend against disease, yet also to create antibodies naturally.  Fragments of disease are everywhere in the air, even Rabies because of the Government live rabies bait drops (for more information  see http://www.dogsnaturallymagazine.com/rabies-bait-dangers ), not enough to actually catch the disease, yet enough for the body to create antibodies if you are healthy.

So, concentrate on health, with fresh natural whole foods and limit all toxins as much as you can and Mother Nature and her design of the amazing immune system will take care of everything else without need for vaccination.  This is the protocol we use at K9 Rescue and we have never had an unvaccinated raw fed rescue dog fall sick from viral disease.

What is Vaccinosis?

Vaccinosis is a set of symptoms that occurs after the administration of a vaccine(s). These symptoms are more commonly referred to as adverse reactions or events occurring within minutes. However, in many cases symptoms are not noted for months or even until years later particularly in animals that have been repeatedly vaccinated year after year. While the term vaccinosis isn't a recognized disease, the body is definitely in a state of “dis-ease” or out of balance. Conventional veterinary medicine doesn't widely recognize this state of dis-ease, however research and facts have been conducted and collected by the naturopathic veterinary community backing the theory of vaccinosis.

The symptoms vary widely from minor to critical, from temporary or isolated events to chronic anxiety and behavioural problems.

Mild reactions include fever, tenderness or swelling around the inoculation site, "flu-like" symptoms, loss of appetite, lethargy, depression, limping, vomiting, diarrhoea, and anxiety. More severe reactions may include seizures, anaphylactic shock and even death.

Chronic problems may be difficult to trace back to vaccinations, only because the symptoms or the health problems can begin weeks, months and even years later. However, when we understand what happens in the body when a vaccine is administered, we can begin to connect the dots. We believe that ALL modern diseases in pets can be traced back to either the direct administration of vaccines or indirectly through genetic transfer.

The most common chronic symptoms include irritable bowel syndrome, liver and kidney problems, glandular changes, ear infections, parasite infestation, skin problems, tumours at the vaccination site, allergies and cancer.

Vaccines: Unnatural Immunity

Vaccinations compromise the immune system rather than enhance it, setting the body up for disease rather than preventing it.

Vaccinated mothers do not pass on herd immunity, which then puts pups in greater danger of contracting disease while they are very young. By attempting to save the individual animal, we are effectively destroying the species. How Does the Immune System Work?

The immune system is the body's defence against infectious organisms and other invaders. Through a series of steps called the immune response, the immune system attacks organisms and substances that invade body systems and cause disease. The immune system is made up of a network of cells, tissues, and organs that work together to protect the body. The cells involved are white blood cells, or leukocytes, which come in two basic types that combine to seek out and destroy disease-causing organisms or substances.

Leukocytes are produced or stored in many locations in the body, including the thymus, spleen, and bone marrow. For this reason, they're called the lymphoid organs. There are also clumps of lymphoid tissue throughout the body, primarily as lymph nodes, that house the leukocytes.

The leukocytes circulate through the body between the organs and nodes via lymphatic vessels and blood vessels. In this way, the immune system works in a coordinated manner to monitor the body for germs or substances that might cause problems. There are two basic types of leukocytes: phagocytes, which are cells that chew up invading organisms and lymphocytes which are cells that allow the body to remember and recognize previous invaders and help the body destroy them

Vaccines Bypass the Immune System

A normal exposure to pathogens always begins in the nasal, ear, throat, and respiratory passages, never through injection. Once primary immunity has been established by going though an infection, the antibody response follows. This allows the immune system to grow stronger and learn to bestow natural and permanent immunity to an ever-increasing number of pathogens.

Vaccines bypass this essential part of the immune system and merely provoke the secondary immune response, called the anti-body response. However, while activating the anti-body response, vaccines automatically shut down the primary immune system, which poses a long-term health risk.

Just evoking an antibody response without establishing primary immunity first has serious consequences.  This is why the vaccinated population has a much higher rate of infections than the non-vaccinated population as borne out in recent studies.

Vaccine ingredients also cause demyelination. Myelin is the sheath that covers nerves and vaccine ingredients strip it away, exposing the nerves in varying degrees depending on the genetic disposition of the individual. This often leads to hypersensitivity such as fears or unwarranted aggression.

Harm of vaccination : Canine Degeneration

The harm of vaccination was recognised as far back as 1884. At that time, J Compton Burnett, an English homeopath, wrote: "The vaccinated person is poisoned by the vaccine virus"... Burnett noted that vaccination is successful only when a person reacts to the virus. If not, the virus gets absorbed. And this leads to what he called “chronic vaccinosis” -- a chronic form of the very same disease that the person was supposed to have been vaccinated against. Early in the 20th century, American homeopath J H Allen warned that with vaccination, “the whole race will soon become degenerated.”

One reason vaccines are so harmful is that the bacteria and viruses of vaccines are cultivated in foreign animal proteins, such as rabbit brain tissue, monkey kidney tissue, bovine tissue, pig blood, etc. When injected into the body, these proteins turn toxic because proteins have to be broken down into amino acids by the digestive system before they can be utilised.  

With puppy vaccinations, another problem is that a dog's immune system is not fully developed until 4-6 months of age. The puppy’s undeveloped immune system may not be able to distinguish between its own protein and foreign proteins. By weakening the immune system, vaccination contributes to degenerative diseases, allergic reactions and auto-immune diseases, where the body’s immune system attacks its own cells (as proved by a Purdue Study). Foreign animal proteins also contain foreign genetic information which may be picked up by the vaccine and implanted into the dogs genes. This can result in genetic damage.

Combining several vaccines (such as the very popular DHLPP combo) can result in strange new viruses that cause strange new diseases. George Vithoulkas, a world-renowned homeopath, states: "Instead of protecting people through vaccination, we are making humanity sick on a chronic level".

Vaccines : Toxic Ingredients

The numbers of microbes, antibiotics, chemicals, heavy metals and foreign animal by-products in vaccines is staggering and should shock anyone.

AA vaccine contains bacterial, viral or other 'antigenic' material, plus a range of 'other' substances may be included in animal vaccines, some obscurely named and without clear explanation. Any of the following ingredients may be incorporated in the dose your animal receives:

Aluminium, mercury, oil, paraffin oil, patented polymers, acrylics, antibiotics (e.g. gentamycin, polymyxin, amphoteracin B, neomycin, aureomycin, tylosine, natamycine), ethanol, phenol, salts, casein hydrolysate, collagen hydrolysate, sorbitol, sucrose, dextrin, squalene, saponin and derivatives, unspecified surfactants, cholesterol, ovalbumen (egg white), γ-irradiated canine blood serum, canine red blood cells, phosphatidyl choline, formaldehyde, patented oil/surfactant mixes and gelatin.

Also not specified are remnants of the cell cultures (see below) on which the viruses are grown in the laboratory. These are from animal tissues (e.g. baby hamster kidney cells). It is worth running an impartial internet search on some of these substances. However, when subjecting your animal to vaccination, it is not simple to discern which particular adjuvants and ancillary substances may be involved in that particular dose. Even your vet is unlikely to know without actively researching the subject and manufacturers may not be very open.  

It is interesting to note that an article (Adverse Events Diagnosed within 3 days of Vaccine Administration in Dogs, 10/1/05 JAVMA Scientific Report) states "Factors known to cause vaccine reactions include the primary vaccine agent or antigen, adjuvants, preservatives, stabilizers, and residues from tissue cultures used in vaccine production."

Vaccines and Vivisection

Bacterial vaccinations are grown in petri dishes, yet viral vaccinations require a live host, even in today's modern times. Up until 1983 when ingredients lists were still declared, this was the accepted method for creating rabies vaccine. There's no information on how it is currently made; it is assumed this is still the practice:

1. A live rabbit, dog or goat is strapped and its head held.ont>
2. With no anaesthetic, a cut is made through the skin on top of the head and the skin is separated from the skull.
3. A circular saw removes some bone.
4. A piece of the brain of an apparently rabid dog is inserted and the skin sewn up and the animal is put in a cage to die.
5. Death occurs between 13 and 27 days from inflammation of the brain.
6. The brain and spinal cord are removed, dried and mashed in a distilled water and salt solution with either carbolic acid or chloroform added.
7. After straining it is ready for animal or human use.
